Hannah's Treat of The Day!

Haven't done this for a few days so it's definitely time to catch up! (Maybe I need to treat myself more...haha!)

Here is my treat of the day, I had this the other day whilst shopping...
Costa Coffee Brownie, it was DELICIOUS! It's not the ones you get in the packets by the tills, but a fresh one that was in the cabinet with all the muffins etc. and it said 'new' next to it so decided to give it a try and it was divineeee. Had white chocolate chips inside it and it was the perfect mix of crunchy outside and soft gooey inside...mmmm i'm drooling a bit just thinking about it! Definitely recommend trying one next time your in Costa!

Get to Know Me

Ok I found these questions and thought i'd give them a go, think it's nice to open up a bit and let you get to know me a bit more! So here it goes...

3 Things you cannot leave the house without?
My blackberry, would be lost without it! Can literally organise my whole world using it, calendar, emails, BBM, internet...i'm constantly googling things.

Keys, because when I leave the house I like to be able to get back in!
Sunglasses, I find that my eyes are really sensitive to the sun, and if I dont wear sunglasses i'm forever squinting which isn't too attractive!

Favorite Brand of makeup?
This was a toughie as I tend to mix up a bit of everything.

  • For eyeshadows it has to be Chanel, I love their beautiful quads, the packaging is luxe.
  • For mascara i'm a big fan of Rimmel Lash Accelerator, it's been my favourite for the past 6 months and i've bought many a tube!
  • For lipstick can't beat Rimmel again! But I do have a lovely Chanel number which is the perfect shade of pink.
  • For bronzer/blush I love Mac.
  • Foundation wise i'm a big Maybelline fan, I used to love their Dream Matte Mousse, and when I was in America I picked up their liquid foundation 'Fit' which I am a massive fan of, bought a slighter paler shade in Canada as i'm loosing my tan and am pleased to say I love it just as much!

Favourite Flower?
Orchids, I used to live in Asia and think they are stunning.

Favourite clothing store?
At the moment i'm loving H&M and Zara, can always find something to buy!

If money was no object, it has to be Reiss.
Favorite Perfume?
It's a tie between Chanel-Chance and YSL-Parisienne.

And I loved Viktor & Rolf- Flowerbomb but I ran out and have yet to repurchase, next time i'm in Duty Free for sure!
Heels or flats?
Flats, I have the habit of buying heels but they just sit in my wardrobe looking pretty waiting for the chance to be worn!

Do you make good grades?
Yes, i'm quite a smart cookie if I say so myself!

Favourite colours?

Turqouise, Mint and Coral! (but I tend to wear mainly grey and black!)
Do you drink energy drinks?

Occasionally, but I try not to.
Do you drink juice?

I love squash, but only summer fruits and blackcurrant. I hate anything with oranges in it!
Do you like swimming?
Love swimming, would happily be a mermaid!

Do you eat fries with a fork?

In a restaurant yes, but down at Macdonalds...no!
Favourite moisturiser?

Body Shop Body Butters, especially the Mango one.
Do you want to get married later on in life?
I want to get married yes, I'd like to be married by the time i'm 25, is that young?

Do you get mad easily?

In general, no. But there are certain things that really get to me, like bullying or any form of cruelty to animals.
Do you bite your nails?

Sometimes!
Have you ever had a near death experience?

Umm a few! When I was younger I swallowed a pound coin which flipped in my throat and blocked my airway. Luckily my Dad just dove straight in and fished it out, but it could have very easily gone wrong, with him pushing it further down or lodging it the wrong way. Aside from that i've been in a few near misses in cars, but luckily i'm still alive today and touch wood I will be for many years to come!
Do you drink coffee?
YES! I am a coffee addict, both at home and when i'm out, Costa and Starbucks love me!

Hannah

Love

I've been a bit absent lately, had the post holiday blues. But decided to cheer myself up i'm going to write down all the things I love! (or as many as I can think of right now...)

vanilla candles, old photos, ticket stubs, hummus, skipping, the smell of bonfires, airports, bridal magazines, sitting in cafes watching the world go by, driving down windy roads, cocktails, freshly dry cleaned clothes, puppies, thai food, traveling to somewhere new, exploring, waking up and realising it's sunday, tea lights, starbucks, people-watching, seeing old friends, making new friends, love letters, postcards, new magazines, fresh strawberries, oat cereal, fresh bed sheets, hotel rooms, orchids, cricket jumpers, uggs.

TBC!

Airport Adventures

So my flight has been delayed, annoying but I kind of expected it! So i've been exploring the delights of St John's Airport. I LOVE airports, hours of fun! I'm the sort of sad person who shows up four hours early for a flight just to look around the shops and watch the planes!

Here are a few snippits from my airport adventures.
Best magazine ever! But slightly concerning to read before getting on a plane...
Last Tim Hortons...couldn't resist Tim's Bits! (Sounds so wrong and dirty!!!)

Treat of the day!

I know realise that if I always have a treat of the day i'll be the size of a house before the end of the month...as I will just eat every piece of sugary goodness I come across and tell myself 'oh it's just research for the blog', so it HAS TO STOP!

But...i'm on holiday now so it doesn't need to stop until Monday, hurrah! Well technically it should stop Sunday night when I leave Canada, but everybody need's a jetlag/post-holiday blues day so i'll give myself until Tuesday...maybe Wednesday, but then I might as well just finish the week and be sensible from the following Monday, argh it's a vicious circle!

Back to the case in hand, today's treat was the delicious 'Newfie Storm' flavoured ice cream from Moo Moo's Icecreamery in St John's. Sadly I do not have a photo of the said icecream. So instead here is a photo of the ice cream placey itself.

Yes it is painted cowprint, yes it is AMAZING! They don't have a website but there's lots of information here and here

I am rather ashamed to say this is the second day i've been to Moo Moo's...went last night (after having the devilish bread pudding, I need to learn to say no!) and it was divine, had the Caramel swirl flavour yesterday. Then today was sat watching the TV and the cravings started. I just kept thinking about the creamy ice cream goodness, and hopefully it's not just me who gets this, but when you start thinking about something and you just can't get it out of your mind. So decided to just put myself out of my misery, sprinted the 300metres or so to Moo Moo's and got some icream, happy days!

So if you are ever in St John's Moo Moo's is a must, it's all home made and absolutely delicious.

I am definitely moo moo's for Moo Moo's!
(if that even makes sense? God i think the ice cream has gone to my brain!)

Hannah's Treat of The Day!

So today I went to a wonderful cafe called Rocket, in St John's, Newfoundland. ( I say today....i've been there at least once a day since I arrived, its AMAZING!) So yes if your ever in St John's you must go to
Rocket

After resisting all week I finally gave in and decided to sample their 'Devilish Bread Pudding'
Wow, it was good!!!

Think of a super condensed, sweet, bread and butter pudding, with caramel and a lot of a sugar and you will begin to imagine the deliciousness that was this dessert!! I couldn't eat for hours afterwards, was on a mega sugar high. Amazing.

I'm guessing it's probably a closely guarded secret recipe but would love to make it back home!

Song for Heartbreak

I've already done a song of the week but thought i'd sneak this one in...
I think everyone's been through heartbreak at some point in their lives (if you haven't count yourself lucky and touch wood!) This song is so breathtakingly beautiful, it's a song that makes you feel so sad but is so gorgeous to listen to that your willing to put yourself through the sadness. Adele has a way of capturing emotions so well and I don't think there is a single song of hers that i've heard that I haven't been able to identify with in some way, she really is a lyrical genius! (Ok have just found out that 'Lovesong' is a cover of the Cure song, but the rest of her songs are all original I believe!)

So here is the beauty that is 'Lovesong'.

Song of the Week: Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

This song has been going round and round my head all week. Romantic lyrics. Catchy tune. Absolutely adore it. 5 minutes of pure bliss.

The video makes me want to run around a field with a tamborine, whistling and dancing/
Big thanks to Fearne Cotton who had this as her record of the week on BBC Radio 1 last week, I downloaded the whole album after listening to it and it's amazing.

Girl Crush

Ok...I admit it. I have a girl crush. Who doesn't love Anne Hathaway at the moment?

If I could swap bodies (or lives...) with anybody it would be her. I think I would spend all day running around with my glossy mane of beautiful brown hair, and fluttering my big doe eyes at everyone.

The Mystery of the Lost Ipod

Well following on from my previous post, my trip to the gym this morning wasn't all plain sailing.

Jumped on the treadmill, put my ipod in the little drinks holder, then started jogging. Now the treadmill I was using was quite old and had probably seen better days and it was a bit shaky...and low and behold my ipod managed to jump out of the holder and fly off the back of the treadmill. It's case came apart and the ipod disappeared! I was literally standing there with the case and the ipod was nowhere to be found. I searched under all the other equipment, and even panicked that it had slid under the door of the utility room in the corner. But thankfully the gap under the door wasn't big enough for a ipod to slip under.

I was puzzled. I knew the ipod had to be somewhere and then it struck me...it was inside the treadmill!
So I started pulling bits off the treadmill, praying no-one came in. I unclipped the bit from the front of the treadmill and hallelujah my beloved ipod was nestled under a whole load of wires and clips! I have never been so glad to see it in my whole life! I just can't run without music and i've had this ipod for almost 3 years now so I have grown quite attached to it.

So I reassembled the treadmill and started again, this time safely tucking the ipod into my sports bra!

Running

I've been in Canada for a few days now, and after a few days of slacking decided it was time to get myself back on the treadmill.
I usually run at least 3 times a week (or every second day) as I have a bit of a dodgy right knee, if I run everyday it starts to twinge, but it seems to be able to manage every second day so we've come to a bit of a compromise. On the other days i'm either lazy and stay in bed watching This Morning, or I go to the beloved gym and do other exercising pursuits, such as using the good old cross trainer, or cycling, which is a bit easier on my dear old knee.

Now I need to confess something...I am a gym addict, there is something about gym's that I just love. I lost 5 stone last year and I've been able to keep the weight off thanks to going to the gym 4-5 times a week. As long as I keep up with the gym I can eat pretty much what I like, but I tend to stick to the 80/20 rule. Eat healthy 80% of the time, then treat myself 20%! I tend to be healthy during the week then a bit naughty at the weekends. (but isn't everyone naughty at the weekends! haha!)

So this morning I dragged myself down to the gym in my dad's apartment block, sweated it out for 30 minutes and I feel so much better.

(Me as a gym bunny haha!)

Mini Toiletries

I fly to Canada tomorrow so I popped into Tesco's (I like the word 'popped' as it makes it sound whimsical and spur of the moment, whereas anyone who has been to Tesco's knows that it takes a certain level of bravery and mental preparation especially on a bank holiday weekend) The place was rammed, so many children I could barely move. Now that I am older and out of school I firmly believe that children should be kept in school at all times, or at least when I decide to go shopping.
But back to the point of this story, I went to get some books to read and I needed shampoo and conditioner to last me the trip.
I got two books 'Tinker Tailor Solider Spy' as the film is coming out soon and Keith Richards autobiography 'Life'. (maybe i'll do a review when i've read them?)

And then I went off to the beauty department and came across one of my greatest loves...
MINI TOILETRIES!!
I don't know why, but I am a complete sucker for anything in miniature form.
There is something about toiletries made smaller that makes me go 'awww' and think they are cute. Which is ridiculous as really they are just overpriced chemicals in bottles but oh well!
So now I have the mini versions of the John Frieda 'Go Blonder' range, as I have blonde hair but it's gone a bit dull lately so this stuff usually perks it up!

I Feel So Close To You Right Now

Every now and again a song comes along that literally 'shakes me to my core' (i've always wanted to use that expression!)
I can probably count the songs on my fingers that have made a deep impact on me. I think the last one was 'Always Like This-Bombay Bicycle Club', the sort of songs that you can't listen to loudly enough, you literally want to engrave them into your mind and listen to them forever!
My current song obsession is Calvin Harris's new song 'Feel So Close', the lyrics may not be genius 'I feel so close to you right now, its a force field, I wear my heart upon my sleeve, it's a big deal'. Hmmm...but it is horribly catchy and there is something about the tune that makes me feel so, so happy. I always have a big smile on my face listening to it (and I have had it on repeat for pretty much the past four days).

It really is 4 minutes of pure happiness!
Enjoy!

Blackberry Red Light of Doom

Do you have a Blackberry? If you do you may understand what i'm talking about, or think i'm completely insane!
Basically, whenever I see the red light flash on my Blackberry, I do panic a little bit inside and I dont know why! I get this strange gut feeling. It's not like my phone has turned evil and is trying to take over the world, it is simply telling me that I have a text, email, BBM, facebook notification....(could be anything really, Blackberries really can do everything)
The worst is sometimes if I wake up in the middle of the night and I look over and I can see the red light flashing. I then have a ten minute debate with myself deciding if I should check why the phone is flashing and risk waking up and not being able to get back to sleep, or try to ignore it and spend the next few hours restlessly trying to sleep whilst ignoring the red beacon of light shining across the room (it is suprisingly bright!!) imagining every worse case scenario of who could be trying to get in contact with me.
Maybe I should just turn the red light off and be done with it, but it does have its redeeming features. It is useful in situations when you can't really have your phone out, but you can see the little red light poking out of your bag, or when your at dinner waiting for a text/email/bbm/facebook message etc.etc. and you don't want to keep constantly checking your phone.
So in summary I don't know why I fear the red light so much. Maybe i'll download one of those apps that makes the light change to a pretty colour. But for now I will keep referring to it as the 'red light of doom'!

Well Hello There!

My name is Hannah and welcome to my blog!

I often find myself being told by people that they would love to be inside my head for a day, as I do come up with the weirdest thoughts and observations about everyday life.

I get excited about the littlest things, and so many things intrigue me that I can often go off on a tangent for hours on end, and ramble on and on and on and on....(you get the picture!)

So I decided to start a blog to document these observations and to share them with 'the world' (or whoever is amazing enough to actually read what I write!)

So sit back, relax, make a cup of tea and enjoy :)
